Posh Meets Casual Dining at The Patio on Lamont in Pacific Beach

The Patio Front

The Patio on Lamont Street

The Patio on Lamont Street, which opened in 2012 in Pacific Beach, is a cozy restaurant with a definite neighborhood-eatery vibe. It also pleasantly lacks the usual seaside environment and the sand-clad clientele. The décor is a careful balance of Old-World elegance (mirrors and chandeliers in the main dining room) with a touch of Zen; its casual yet stylishly modern furnishings add a twist to the typical interior of a beach-town bistro.

The Patio Plush Chair

The Patio on Lamont’s décor is a mix of classic and modern styles.

As part of The Patio Restaurant Group in San Diego, which includes The Patio on Goldfinch, Swell Cafe and The Front Porch, The Patio on Lamont Street is a little oasis in our coastal city. Once you’re there, you can choose to sit in the air-conditioned area and sink into one of the comfy banquets or plushy upholstered chairs and stay for a while. Or take a seat in the porch next to the plant wall, or in the bar area near the large screen televisions where you can catch a game while you share a communal table with friends  — or make new ones!

However, food is the real reason to dine at The Patio on Lamont. The menu is extensive and uncomplicated with a touch of Asian, Mexican, and French fusions. They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekends.

We decided to try the Sunday brunch on our first visit to this atypical PB locale. On this unusually hot and humid day in San Diego, we chose to sit in the posh main dining area, and languished in the air-conditioned room as we sampled three different items.

The Patio Breakfast

The Patio Breakfast is sure to please those interested in a traditional American-style plate. This hearty breakfast consists of eggs, bacon and potatoes with a giant and delicious biscuit.

The Broken Down Nicoise Ahi Tuna salad is of the “big salad” variety — light and plentiful!

The Patio Smoked Pork Burrito

The Smoked Pork Belly Burrito was a huge surprise in both taste and size. Bring your appetite for this one!

What makes The Patio on Lamont Street a little different from other restaurants of this type, is that humans get special treatment and discounts when they bring their canine companions!

The Patio Patrons with Pets

The spacious covered porch is the welcome area for The Patio’s other favorite regulars: dogs. The Patio on Lamont is known for being exceedingly pet-friendly. Man’s best friend is welcomed in the large outdoor patio complete with a walk-up or sit-down bar window so you don’t have to feel left out of the fun. Freshly made dog treats are free for your four-legged companion, too!

Saturday and Sunday brunch is served from 9am until 3pm, and includes half off their unique “Dog Tails” cocktail menu if you bring your dog. So bring the pooch to brunch!

Of course, Happy Hour is also available every day of the week from 3pm to 6pm and features a special bar menu.

The gracious and knowledgeable staff don’t hurry you through your meal nor make you feel abandoned. On our recent visit our server patiently answered our many questions about the food. Important questions like, “What’s in this amazing biscuit?”  were quickly met with well-informed answers, “Our special blend of cheddar and jack cheeses with fine herbs.”

The Patio Twisted Elvis

The Twisted Elvis Dessert at The Patio on Lamont

We capped off our meal with The Patio on Lamont’s unique twist on the ordinary. You’ve heard of Elvis’ favorite fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, right? The Patio took this idea and turned it inside out adding banana bread, caramelized bananas, vanilla ice cream and topped it with pecans and Foster’s sauce to create the distinctive dessert called the Twisted Elvis. A must-try at The Patio on Lamont!

If you’re planning to visit The Patio on Lamont, reservations are highly recommended! Valet parking is also available.
