San Diego Film Festival Wraps Up 9th Year
The San Diego Film Festival wrapped up its ninth successful run this weekend, but the monumental task of screening 85 movies, documentaries and shorts in five days did not come off without a few hitches (or some disgruntled patrons threatening law suits!). Lines were long and theaters full to capacity, but overall the purpose of putting on this movie-watching event where filmmakers and movie buffs can see films before their theatrical release in an intimate setting, was achieved.
This year's selections were nothing short of Oscar quality. From “Conviction” with Hilary Swank, which made its US Premier right here in San Diego, and “Welcome To The Rileys” starring James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart, to the World Premier of “The Kane Files: A Life of Trial” with Drew Fuller, these first-run films were first rate.
This Family Will Miss You, Dr. Laura
It’s a shame Dr. Laura will be going off the air. I will miss her company, the advice, and support she gave me over the last 18 years. I really wanted her to stick around long enough for my kids to listen to her, and hear confirmation of what “Do the Right Thing” means in their adult life. Not all decisions are clear cut in our daily lives, but listening to her show sometimes helped me decipher the answer to many confusing situations.
My Dress Went to The Oscars Without Me
Going to the Oscars is near impossible. Unless you're related to one of the nominees or are part of the Academy or credentialed press, you'll probably never see the inside of the Kodak Theater when this mother of all award shows is on. Of course, the next best thing is to have your dress go without you, right?
