Dining on a Flagship Cruise in San Diego Bay

We celebrated two milestones over the weekend: Mother’s Day and our 25th Wedding Anniversary! We wanted to do something special — something out of the ordinary. A dinner cruise aboard a Flagship Cruise in San Diego was more than special, it was memorable!

The special treatment you will get as a guest on a Flagship cruise begins as soon as you board. The captain greets you as you walk into the spacious dinning room sipping on a complimentary glass of chilled Champaign. You’re ushered over to the photo area for a traditional cruise shot with the ship’s life ring. After a couple of snaps, you’re escorted to your numbered table.

When you book your cruise, you’ll have to pre-select your menu. We had the New York Strip Stake and the Halibut. Both were served with creamy mash potatoes and farm-fresh seasonal vegetables. Nothing tasted frozen or mass produced! Our dinner was as flavorful as any meal at a reputable restaurant. We ordered a Baked Brie appetizer (not included with the meal) which reached our table after we had visited the three decks and taken some photos before saling off into the spectacular San Diego sunset!

The music provided by our very sociable DJ, Paul, included all the requests he took time to collect when he visited each table to gather a list. Of course, a special experience like this one means there will be other people celebrating important events; there were a few birthdays and anniversaries, but ours was certainly the most important one on the boat! (At least I’d like think so!)

Sailing towards the open waters of the Pacific ocean, we were treated to breathtaking views of the San Diego skyline. The captain of this Flagship cruise made sure he slowed down enough for us to climb up on the third deck and take as many photos as we wanted. The smooth waters on this calm evening definitely helped us capture  this special night!

Then the beat of the music quickened. We joined other passengers on the second deck and danced the night away! On our slow ride around the bay, we were treated to a special fireworks show from the USS Midway. The captain parked the boat close enough for us to see the night sky light up!

Returning to the cruise ship docks on Harbor Drive, we realized we had been on this grand tour of the bay for three short hours. At first you may think this might be too long to be trapped on boat out at sea. But I can assure you, it was not long enough.

If you’d like to take a cruise like ours, check out the Flagship Cruises menu and book online. It’s that easy. Then board, sit back, and enjoy the incredible views of  America’s Finest City that can only be had from the water.

Make sure to use this 10% off coupon for your special dinner and dancing cruise.

Maureen, I know it takes some planning and then committing to do this. It is well worth it!

  4. It has been far too long since I’ve done this! When I was younger we did it a few times and always had so much fun. One of my favorites was when our entire senior class did the Senior Cruise! Talk about shinanigans! Thank you for a great idea to add to my summer wish list for date night or better yet…. day date with the hubs!
